From October 5 to 8, 2026, an international workshop was held in Thailand, focusing on water resource protection and the use of modern technologies to assess the condition of water bodies. The event was held with the participation of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) as part of two ASEAN projects: “Development of an Interactive GIS as a Tool for Communication and Training of Specialists from ASEAN Countries to Solve Regional, Transboundary and Environmental Problems Using the Example of the Greater Mekong” and “Development of Environmental Management and Conservation Measures Optimization Strategy for the Valued Freshwater Bodies of ASEAN Countries”. The workshop brought together researchers, environmental specialists, and AEV Club partners from Southeast Asian countries.

The main topics of the workshop were water monitoring, reducing environmental pollution, and developing environmental projects. Participants presented research on the Mekong River and lakes in Thailand and discussed the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to assess water resources. Other topics included organic waste recycling, reforestation, reducing pollution from livestock farming, and developing environmentally friendly aquaculture. Special attention was also given to projects in Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
